My Secret Writing Hack

It seems like everyone is looking for a “hack”. Here’s my writing hack.

Today is the first day of #30for30, where a group of us will be writing 30 atomic essays for 30 days. I’m doing it for the structure and support of developing a writing habit. Joining a writing group like this is no guarantee that you’ll develop the writing habit, but its set up to increase your chances dramatically. Still, it’s easy to skip a day or to not post an essay because your essay is “not perfect yet.”

But not me. I have a secret weapon.

Right after I sent out my tweet announcing my participation, I got a thumbs up from Mike Scully. Mike and I are friends who have worked for the same company for over 10 years. We now work in different divisions on opposite sides of the country and most of our current encounters are via Twitter. A little later, Mike posted, “How do I read the essays and follow along?”

YAY! I have a follower!

And then it dawned on me.

I have a follower. This means posting every single day. No excuses. Mike is looking for your daily post. He’s counting on you!

Thanks, Mike. Day 1 is dedicated to you. Thank you for your support! Don’t worry, I won’t let you down, they’ll be 29 more here for you when you’re ready to read them.
